I’m just as passionate about the work I do outside of the kitchen. As a steadfast advocate for independent restaurants, I’m deeply involved in efforts to support and sustain the industry. I’m an active member of the Independent Restaurant Coalition, where I fight for the rights and livelihoods of small restaurant owners like myself. I also co-founded Milwaukee’s own Independent Restaurant Coalition to ensure that our local independent restaurant scene thrives. On the small business front, I’m proud to be deeply involved with Main Street Alliance which drives state and federal policymaking that gives a fair shot to small businesses and strengthens communities nationwide.
Caring for the people in our industry is something I take to heart. Whether someone works in my restaurant or not, I believe they deserve access to the resources and support needed to succeed in this tough industry. That’s why I’ve been a vocal advocate for implementing service charges in my restaurants, helping to create equitable and sustainable wages for all my employees. Beyond my own four walls, I’m proud to serve as an ambassador for World Central Kitchen, an organization that provides life-saving support to hospitality workers affected by natural disasters.
Climate change is another issue I care deeply about, and I’m honored to be an ambassador for the James Beard Foundation’s Climate Solutions for Restaurant Survival Campaign. This initiative is dedicated to addressing the significant impact of climate change on independent restaurants, chefs, and the local economies that depend on them.
I’m a chef ambassador for No Kid Hungry, a campaign focused on ending childhood hunger in America. No Kid Hungry has already made a positive impact in the lives of millions of kids, and I’m proud to be part of the effort to ensure that every child has access to the nutrition they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
